"Most of my family photos go into pocket-style pages for time and ease. But when I come to do a traditional page, I intentionally slow the process down and enjoy the journey of creating a piece that will help us savour our memories for years to come.
This is my girl close to last Christmas. She wanted a photo to remember the face paint she had as part of her angel costume so I made this page to remind her of how beautiful she felt that day. Here’s a little look into my thought process…
1: I always start with colour and pattern selections. I think about what cues I can take from the photo/s. In this case, the soft peachy and golden tones contrasted with the brilliant blue of her dress. The Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper (146284) was a no-brainer and Blueberry Bushel (147138) was a great match!
2: Background building came next. I love the script font in the Stitched All Around stamp set (146632) so I used ‘Oh Darling You Are Fabulous’ as a background stamp in Flirty Flamingo (147052). I also swiped on some Embossing Paste (141979) for texture and to break up the patterns of the designer paper. I dried it then flicked on some colour with my Aqua Painter (103954).
3: Next I layered behind and around the photo to create a focal point with wow! For me this usually involves some kind of page title (‘darling, darling, you are fabulous’) and lots of pretty embellishments. Colored Doilies (146935), sequins, die cuts, ribbons – whatever I have at hand to tone in with the theme of the photo without overtaking it. That cute black spotted paper is from the Tropical Escape 6x6” Designer Series Paper (146916) if you’re wondering!
4: The final touches: I layered it up down the left of the page to tie in some blue and give more texture to the page as a whole. The stitching helped create a little space for some journaling to add to the story.
